UNTOUCHABLE DJ of the Week: DJ Izzy Rock

Biography

Israel Esquilin (born October 1, 1971), better known as DJ Izzy Rock is a prominent DJ / Producer and Re mixer. Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Izzy came to the Bronx at the age of 2 and was raised in the south Bronx.

He was introduced to DJing while going to house parties and break dancing back in the 80s. His best friend from junior high school introduced him to turntables and vinyl at the age of 12. By 14, Izzy was doing birthday parties, sweet 16s, and was contracted to do all the High School dances for Vocational High Schools in the Bronx. At that same time, Izzy’s father who is also musically inclined introduced him to the keyboard/piano. Izzy’s father was a much known musician in the Christian community in Puerto Rico. His father plays piano, guitar and bass very fluently. One day his father left the piano in the living room and Izzy stayed on it for 2 days playing and learning it. Needless to say, Izzy learned to play piano, drums and a bit of guitar. By 17, Izzy was set in his first Midi Studio. He was running off an Atari 1040ST running Creator Notator, a Korg M1, Roland D20, D50, and Ensoniq EPS as a sampler. He started remixing songs and played them at all his gigs. He then teamed up with his partner DJ Tanco and they both have been collaborating and partners since.

Izzy was influenced by the like of groups Genesis, Phil Collins, Frank Zappa, Stevie Wonder, U2, and Michael Jackson to name a few. He is very fluent in all styles of music from rock, to the urban hip hop, r&b, reggae, reggeatton, house, and Latin. His passion for music has no boundaries. His music creation and passion to move the crowd was influenced by DJ Saint Pete, Jellybean, Todd Terry, Holiday and Victor Vargas, and Albert Cabrera to name a few.
On the technology side, Izzy has always been technologically savvy. He went from spinning on vinyl to cd’s to now laptop computer. He was testing PC/MAC DJ Software since 2003. He was one of the first Bronx DJ’s to adopt both Virtual DJ and Scratch Live as true contenders.

Izzy is currently playing in Bronx clubs/bars during the weekends and has established himself as very skilled and most wanted DJ. Playing in spots all over like Lime Light, Club Heaven, Fire Island, Flamingos, Club Mumbai, Mi Gente Café, Kokonuts, GameDay, Sports Plus Café, Vida Lounge, Gypsy Teas, opened up Tropicana Nightclub, Coco Bongos, Martini Lounge, Club Arena, Pompeii Lounge, Beso Lounge and Studio 21. The center of the studio is Korg Triton 88 LE Extreme, Roland Fantom XR, JV 2080, Native Instruments Maschine, Komplete 7, and Omnisphere. The home studio of today requires less and less equipment compared to years ago.

Izzy Rock has his own DJ TEAM associated with the radio station NiteLine Radio. But Izzy has been accepted to become part of the TRI-STATE’s most elite DJ COMPANY the DJ KINGS. NiteLine Radio is now NYC’s #1 Internet Radio station broadcasting worldwide in over 20 countries 24 hours a day 7 days a week!

I collaborate with LA MEGA 97.9 FM in NYC, MAGIC 96.5 FM in ARUBA and RUMBERO 102.3FM in VENEZUELA.

In October 2010, I formed my own label called BLACK STORM MUSIC. This will be a label for DJ RE MIXERS and soon we’ll get a few artists on board.

In March of 2011, after 9 months of planning - the offices of NiteLine are now located at 3425 East Tremont Avenue in the North Bronx! A beautiful facility that is the main office, broadcast studio and recording studio all in one!

Special shout out to his loving and very supportive wife Yvonne who continues to drive him to push for nothing but excellence.
